It’s that time of year again when the migratory birds are moving through and I start putting out the first of my feeders. I maintain a niger seed feeder all year-round and I have infrequent visits from the resident Black-capped Chickadees and Song Sparrows and transient finches such as the House Finch, Purple Finch and the American Goldfinch. The White-crowned Sparrows have started moving through in the past few days so I have put up my combo peanut/mixed seeds tube feeder and I have been getting much more activity. This morning we were pleasantly surprised to see a young Northern Cardinal being feed by an adult male on the perch I have placed in close proximity. I would have thought that the young Cardinals would be much farther along and independent by this time of the year.
