Website Improvements

_N5A2163Today’s digital photographer has an abundance of methods via the World Wide Web to showcase their work for private and commercial reasons.  I have accounts in various image-based websites including Photobucket, 500px, Viewbug and Fine Art America.  I also have accounts on a few nature forums such as Canadian Geographic,,, Canon Digital Photography Forums,, and the Canadian-based  However, I find it very time-consuming to frequent all of these resources, let alone maintain a presence, post images and keep up on the prerequisite social interaction.  So far, I am only really contributing to my Facebook and Flickr accounts and of course trying to maintain this website.

Over the past few months, I have been very busy accumulating images from Peru, winter birding and trips to Britain and Florida.  It takes a fair amount of time to process the images, generate an appropriate blog entry and eventually the best images will end up in my galleries.  I have been remiss in maintaining both the blog and the galleries which brings me to the subject of this post.

I often contemplate how to improve traffic to my website, while keeping new and returning visitors entertained.  New visitors to will most likely (hopefully!) explore the galleries, read the blog entries and come back in the future.  I suspect that my returning visitors read the blog entries when they are announced and may also venture into the galleries.

With the objective of keeping my website more up-to-date and interesting, I have created a new gallery that is part of my Portfolio page.  This Gallery page intended to be a transition between new and existing images and is called Most Recent Work in which I will post my newest images.  My larger outings will each have their own gallery, such as the newly created Avon & Somerset 2014 and Florida April 2014 while single images will be in a miscellaneous gallery.  I anticipate that these images will have a four-six month presence here before being moved to a gallery or be used in a blog post.  I will still be writing stories about my pictures, you may just see them before the story now 😉

I hope this new gallery will assist you in navigating and keep current with the changes and additions to my website.  Thanks for stopping by!

Great idea with the addition of the ‘Most Recent Work’ gallery Arni. You may see it popping up on another website 🙂 Beautiful Painted Bunting as well.

Thanks Scott, the Painted Buntings were quite something! I expect that the new gallery will fill a void that presently exists. Now I am trying to figure out the best way now to have a ‘last updated’ notification somewhere without having to create a new separate post.
